The number of days depends on ...... well, I'm not really sure but it seems to be that the more the town you're in can party the longer the festival lasts.
To give you an idea, I've been told that Cha Am celebrates for 3 days and Pattaya parties for 8 days.
I'm glad we're in Cha Am.
We were invited to a pre-Songkran party at a resort owned by one of Gregs acquaintances - the
Thai Bamboo Guesthouse Resort It's up for grabs and I was told it has a reputation as a naturist resort. It's is a fair way out of town and is a little run down so it's not likely to sell quickly nor for the wanted ~AUD450,000
The deal for today was that you pay THB450/head and you get 2 drinks (beer or a softie but no spirits, which cost you THB100 each) and a meal. The big bonus is that you get to mix with a bunch of nice people that can really party.
The ticket has the festival name misspelt.

One of several medium sized, and very juicy, piglets being cut up for serving
Various condiments and salad stuff
More side dishes including a very nice tomato and onion salad
My lunch which I returned for equal quantity of seconds

The water "fight" begins. The splashing of water over each other is part of the festivals ritual.
The weather is so hot that it's a relief, and everyone loves it.
They started with 8 players in the Musical Chairs competition and these were the last two

This pineapple was growing in the garden.
It was the first time I had ever seen a pineapple growing!
After a real fun day we left at 3:30pm and Greg drove us home. The drive was a real experience, and a lesson in "NEVER trust Thai drivers to stop when they should nor assume they will be courteous."
They don't bother looking when they pull out nor give way to their right and do so many other things that could kill other drivers. But, we've been warned so there are no excuses.
And, the overarching thing to keep in mind is that when an accident happens it will be, without exception, the foreigners fault.
So, do EVERYTHING you can to avoid having an accident. Simples!
Over and out on this Sunday night.

Maybe try to find a regular "safe" driver if you can!
ReplyDeleteBack from Inverloch - all fish lived to fight again. Eco Village at Cape Paterson was interesting - 10 star houses with no requirement for heating or cooling. Lots of solar panels and a battery in the garage. Packed in (as ussual) in a very windy paddock by the sea, I told Annick I was getting a rash and we needed to leave!
Hey there mate. We're glad for the fish and that you're enjoying your wandering down-under.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to buy in Inverloch or Cape Paterson?
We have a regular safe driver - Chang. Yes, like the beer ๐-, but if he gets hit, with us in his car, by one of the many unsafe drivers, at 130kph, then there will have been no point in having a safe driver.
I'm praying to God, Yahweh, Shiva, Allah, Buddha, Ganesha, Jah and any other deity that might save me from someone else's abject stupidity every time I get out on the road.
How's the rash? ๐
Just starting out and will look wherever we go. Drove out to Campbellfield today to get a quote on a tow bar and motorcycle carrier - failed miserably! No one makes a towbar yet for the this model Ducato (should have bought a Ducati)! So the carrier will have to wait until we get further up the coast. A wonderful vast emptiness in front of that deep fried seafood stall! - I'd be keen to try some of the sweets but you can keep your pork innards steeped in urine! Great to see you both walking out and about and exploring - I love doing the same and getting badly lost!
DeleteSurely with all the engineering people you know there must be someone that could make a good custom towbar/motorbike carrier at a reasonable price. Maybe not.
DeleteMost of the stalls got a lot busier as the night went on, except the burger one. I had started taking pics early because I wanted some light and the crowds hadn't really arrived.
The pork innards were exquisite and the broth was the absolute opposite of what you called it.
Cha Am is not that big and getting lost would be real feat, especially if you clutch the beach on your walks, as we do.
Oddly though, my internal compass is having a real struggle with my brain in relation to accepting which way is north. I know which way north is but it always feels wrong.
I wish that were the only thing wrong with my brain.
Also, your comment, based on topic, is in the wrong day! ๐
